Anyone but family members can submit a nomination for the Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence. Simply follow these seven steps:
- Choose the appropriate award category
There are six award categories. Ask yourself: which one best describes the person you are nominating?
- Talk to your nominee(s)
Make sure they are willing to be nominated, because you will need to obtain their written consent.
- Find two people who will support your nomination
They should know the nominee(s) and be willing to write a short letter explaining why your candidate(s) should receive an award. Try to include two different perspectives – a parent, a principal, a student, a teacher, someone from the board office, a colleague. Remember – family members cannot write a letter of support for nominees.
- Write letters explaining why your nominee deserves a Premier's Award
Your nomination letter and the two letters of support help the selection panel to appreciate your candidate's strengths. But keep them short! Each letter should be no more than five pages long and must be signed by the writer.
How to write a compelling nomination letter
- Download and complete the nomination form
There are two different nomination forms: one for individuals (PDF, 335 KB) and one for the Team of the Year award (PDF, 330 KB).
The nomination form asks for contact information for you and the person or team you are nominating for an award. Remember to get your nominee(s) to sign the consent form.
- Make a copy
Please keep a copy of your entire submission. It's good insurance in case something gets lost in the mail.
- Send it in before the nomination deadline (February 1, 2010)
Mail or courier the complete package to:
Premier's Award for Teaching Excellence
Curriculum Services Canada
439 University Avenue, Suite 1450

We regret that we cannot accept nominations by email or fax. Only complete packages will be considered.
Packages must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2010.
If you are nominating a team for Team of the Year
- Download and complete the Team of the Year nomination form
- Your nomination letter and two letters of support should explain why the entire team should receive a Premier's Award
- Each letter should still be no more than five pages long
- You will need to complete the nominee page (on the nomination form) for each member of the team (so we have their contact information and permission)
