Safe Schools Symposium: From Policy to Practice

On March 27 and 28, 2008, the Ministry of Education hosted a Safe Schools Symposium.

School boards from across Ontario discussed implementation of the new safe schools provision of the Education Act. The symposium included sessions and workshops about safe schools practices and programs in place across the province.

What topics were covered at the symposium?

Topics included:

  • Bullying Prevention
  • Progressive Discipline and Promoting Positive Student Behaviour, and
  • Community Partnerships.

Who spoke at the symposium?

The symposium featured key note speakers, including:

  • the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education
  • Dr. Avis Glaze, Ontario Education Commissioner and Senior Advisor to the Minister
  • Barbara Hall, Ontario Human Rights Chief Commissioner, and
  • Liz Sandals, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education.
