How do I pay for my education? Is there special funding for students with disabilities?
There are many resources to help you pay for your postsecondary education:
- Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
OSAP provides loans, grants, scholarships and bursaries to eligible students to pay for tuition, books, mandatory fees, living costs, and transportation. OSAP also helps pay for disability-related services and equipment needed to participate in postsecondary education.
- OSAP Access Window
This site can help you calculate the approximate cost of your postsecondary program and estimates how much financial aid you might receive.
- Bursary for Students with Disabilities and Canada Study Grant for the Accommodation of Students with Permanent Disabilities
Full- and part-time students eligible for OSAP may be eligible for non-repayable financial assistance for disability-related services and equipment needed to participate in postsecondary education. Ask the disability counsellor or advisor at the institution you’re planning to attend.
- Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
ODSP provides income support to people with disabilities who need financial assistance to pay for living expenses such as food and housing. Students can usually keep their ODSP income support and receive OSAP for direct educational expenses, as well as grants and bursaries for exceptional disability-related educational costs. However, ODSP recipients must inform their ODSP caseworkers about their OSAP funding.
- You may qualify for special scholarships, bursaries or awards from your institution. Check with the disability services office and the financial aid office.
- College students: Ask the disability services office about reduced tuition fees if your disability requires that you take a reduced course load.
