There are more than 150 apprenticeable trades in Ontario. Each situation is unique and has to be assessed in terms of the skills standards, safety and performance requirements of the trade you’re interested in and your disability.

The Ontario government provides funding to colleges to help them accommodate students with disabilities. For example, a college may be able to provide large-print textbooks or a sign-language interpreter. In addition, the funds can be used for disability assessments or to modify equipment to train apprentices with disabilities.

For accommodation needs or assistance within an apprenticeship program:

  • If the in-class portion of your training is at a public college, speak with the college’s office for students with disabilities.
  • In non-college settings, speak with the training agency directly to arrange for disability-related educational accommodations.
