Job Connect

This Ontario government program helps people obtain sustainable employment by bridging the gap between individuals seeking employment and employers seeking new employees to meet their business needs.

It offers a range of services to respond to the employment and training needs of individuals and the skilled labour needs of employers. It can help people on a path to higher skills training and employment.

Employers who operate a business in Ontario and who are looking to hire staff can benefit from Job Connect services.

What services are available?

The program has three service components that are tailored to meet the needs of individual:

  • The Information and Resource Service provides workshops, information and resources on careers and occupations, the local labour market, training opportunities and job search strategies. There is information on apprenticeship training and resources for internationally trained individuals seeking employment consistent with their skills and experience.
  • Employment Planning and Preparation offers individuals the support needed to clarify employment needs and develop an action plan, assist with making decisions and searching for a job.
  • Job Development and Placement Support provides placements into employment for work experience and/or on-the-job training.

How can employers benefit from Job Connect?

Employers who are looking to hire staff can advertise job openings through the Information and Resource service. Job Connect staff can provide employers with screening and recruiting services to meet their business needs. Through the Job Development and Placement Support employers may be eligible for training incentives to offset some of the costs of providing on-the-job training/work experience to a Job Connect participant.

Who can participate?

  • For Employment Planning and Preparation and Job Development and Placement Support: People who are at least 16 years old, out of school and out of work, and not receiving Employment Insurance benefits.
