We are opening up Ontario schools to full day learning for our four and five year old children.
And I'll tell you why.
We want to help our kids get their best start at school for the best start in life.
And, at the same time we want to build a strong foundation for a powerful work force, a work force that can compete with the best in the world and win.
We all want what's best for our kids.
Because when they succeed, we all succeed.
Building a strong foundation in the early years is absolutely crucial.
It gives our kids a head start,
So they can enjoy life to the fullest,
And helps make our province even stronger. Research tells us that kids who participate in full day learning are better prepared for Grade 1.
They do better throughout school.
They are more likely to graduate from high school and go on to college, university or an apprenticeship. Success in school matters to all of us; it's how we build a well educated workforce.
That's why we're getting a start on full-day learning in Ontario.
We'll begin by phasing-in a program next September.
Kids will learn, play and grow under the guidance of a teacher and an early childhood educator.
And, beyond that, for a reasonable fee, we're making available a before and after school program as well.
We're moving ahead. We're giving our kids every opportunity to succeed,
So they can live up to their full potential and we can all live up to our economic potential. We owe this to ourselves and we owe it to our kids.
Let's show them what success looks like,
By working together,
To help everyone be their very best.
