Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How many awards will be given out?
    The Premier's Safe Schools Awards will be given to up to 10 safe schools teams each year.

  2. I want this to be a surprise. Can I nominate a team without telling them?
    No. The team must agree to be nominated and sign the consent form.

    Although there are many outstanding people working on safe schools teams, not all are comfortable with being in the spotlight. Please make sure the team is willing to be nominated.

  3. Can a team nominate itself?
    Yes. The nomination package must also include two letters of support from people who are not on the team.

  4. Can additional information be included with my nomination package (e.g., photos, letters from students, additional letters of support over and above the two requisite letters)?
    A complete nomination package includes the nomination form and two letters of support. If additional items are included in the submitted nomination package, this material may not be considered or evaluated. If additional letters or materials are included in the nomination package, please indicate which two letters should be considered. The items will not be returned to the nominator.

  5. Is there a limit on the size of a team being nominated for an award?
    No. However, each team must include at least one parent; at least one student (where appropriate); one teacher; one non-teaching staff member, e.g. educational assistant; one community partner, e.g. staff from a public health unit or police services; and the principal.

  6. Our school's team received an award last year. Can they be nominated for this year's awards?
    Yes. However the nomination must focus only on work your safe schools team has done since last year's nominations closed at the end of March 2011.

  7. Can I fill out my nomination form electronically?
    Yes. The nomination form is a fillable and saveable PDF file, so you can complete it electronically. Please print out your completed form, sign it and submit it with the rest of the nomination package by email, mail or courier.

  8. Can I submit a scanned version of a nomination form?
    Yes.

  9. Can I submit my nomination by email?
    Yes. The complete package should be sent to pssa@curriculum.org.

  10. If I am sending by mail or courier, where do I send my nomination package?
    Mail or courier the complete package to:

    Packages must be received on or before the nomination deadline.
