Subject: Revisions to Creating Pathways to Success Student Exit Surveys and Status of the Individual Pathways Plan Web-based Tool

As described in Section 6 “Program Development, Implementation, and Evaluation” of Creating Pathways to Success (2013), schools are required to conduct Student Exit Surveys at the end of Grade 8 and Grade 12. Since the 2015‑16 school year, questions have been provided to district school boards from the Ministry of Education and boards have reported on the results of these Exit Surveys to the Ministry.

We know that authentic student input can shape the development, implementation and evaluation of a school’s Education and Career/Life Planning Program. In an effort to better inform program effectiveness and to assess student impact, we have revised the questions being asked of Grade 8 (Appendix A) and Grade 12 students (Appendix B).

School boards may integrate these revised ministry questions into their locally developed exit surveys or administer the questions as a stand-alone survey. Student access to the survey may be facilitated through a web-based Individual Pathways Plan (IPP) tool of choice. In order to support this work, the ministry is providing an extension of the same license for the Career Cruising tool this school year, as it did for last year, for use by Ontario teachers and students from grades 7 to 12 in the publicly funded school system.

Board level aggregate results of this survey will be collected through the PRISA reporting tool and will serve to inform board practices as well as future ministry support resources. Details for this reporting through PRISA will be forthcoming.

If you have any questions, please contact Patty Zaroski, Education Officer, Program Implementation Branch at patricia.zaroski@ontario.ca.

Thank you for your commitment to the continued development of Education and Career/Life Planning programs.
