Subject: Engagement on Education Assessment in Ontario

Good day Directors of Education,

In follow-up to the below Invitation to the Engagement Sessions on the Independent Review of Assessment and Reporting in Ontario, thank you for sending along teams from your school boards to the engagement session in your region. Boards are encouraged to register for the engagement sessions that best accommodate staff with respect to scheduling availability and location. There are no restrictions on which session you attend.

Although we recognize that you all have busy schedules, we hope that you are able to attend one of the regional engagement sessions that are offered (see list below).

We would very much appreciate your participation and the ability to include the knowledge and experiences of Directors of Education as part of the review of Ontario’s assessment approaches and reporting at the classroom, school, board, provincial, national and international levels.

Other opportunities to provide your advice and input on how to improve student assessment are below:

The Education Advisors and the Education Assessment Secretariat are committed to keeping you updated throughout the process. If you have any questions, please email educationassessment@ontario.ca.

Thank you,

Erica van Roosmalen, PhD.

Public Engagment on Education Assessment in Ontario

Thank you for taking the time to participate in the upcoming engagement sessions regarding student assessment and reporting.

We are pleased to share more details about the location and time of the afternoon sessions at which Boards are welcome to bring up to 12 participants. Once again, please consider the diversity of your community and the diversity of perspectives when identifying participants. This will help ensure the Advisors are able to have a meaningful dialogue informed by a range of experiences and ideas.

All meetings will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Meeting locations, dates and links to register for the engagement sessions are below. During registration, please include any accommodation needs that will support attendees’ ability to fully participate.

Note: A French-language meeting has been added in Ottawa. All other sessions will have pre-assigned tables for Francophone speakers who wish to discuss topics on the agenda with each other.

We are also pleased to provide information regarding the evening and online engagement sessions that are open to the public. We will be distributing the invitation broadly over the coming days but encourage you to also share it within your community.

All members of the community are welcome to attend a public engagement session, at the below times:

  • 6 – 6:30 p.m. – Open House
  • 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. – Roundtable Meeting

Expense Claims and Reimbursement: School boards can collect Expense Claim Form (link here) and all itemized original receipts from each participant after the session. School boards can send a package of completed Expense Claim Forms and related documents to the Education Assessment Secretariat within two weeks of the date of the session. The Expense Claim Guidelines are based on the Government of Ontario’s Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive. Expenses are to demonstrate value for money and be considered necessary and economical with due regard for health and safety.

The input gathered directly from your organization, parents/caregivers, students, teachers/educators, officials and the broader community will be used to help develop recommendations for improving Ontario’s assessment practices.

If you have any questions regarding the independent review of assessment, you can contact the Education Assessment Secretariat at educationassessment@ontario.ca.
