Subject: Webinar – When Hate is in the Headlines

One of the greatest challenges facing educators today is how to navigate conversations about race and other differences in this volatile social and political moment. Central to these conversations are issues of identity, both for educators and their students. In this webinar we will be exploring a framework for having rigorous, nuanced, and identity-safe conversations about contemporary and difficult-to-navigate issues.

The Ministry of Education – Education Equity Secretariat, in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves, is pleased to host this timely and critical webinar.

During this webinar you will have an opportunity to:
1) Hear about Ontario’s Education Equity Action Plan and how the province is working with educators to identify and remove systemic barriers in order to build an education system with enhanced focus on promoting human rights and equity in our classrooms and schools.

2) Learn how Facing History’s pedagogical approach can be used to help frame and guide students through conversations about difficult and complex events.

3) Be introduced to a framework, with supporting content and strategies that will assist in developing a greater sense of agency and efficacy in discussing race and other social identities in the classroom.

This webinar is offered in partnership with the Ministry of Education. Please note attendee information will be shared with the Ministry.
