Subject Application to Pilot Summer Learning Programs 2017

For Summer 2017, district school boards have the opportunity to apply for additional Education Program Other (EPO) funding to pilot summer learning programming (outside the school day) to increase the achievement and engagement of students exiting Grade 6 and entering Grade 7 who require additional support with literacy and/or mathematics. This funding creates the opportunity to bridge gap in supports available to students not meeting the provincial standard in Grade 6 and the extra supports available once in Grade 7.

In order to be considered for this funding, district school boards must apply between March 31 and April 19, 2017. Applications should detail the following:

  • Proposed budget
  • Scalability of the proposed project
  • Planned use of Grade 6 achievement data (e.g., EQAO assessments, report card marks) to inform the project
  • Project goals that align with the key characteristics of effective programs for student learning outside of the school day (see attachment), which include:
    • High quality instruction,
    • Engagement and motivation,
    • Monitoring of impact (including measuring school results in 2017-18),
    • Partnership development,
    • Systemic thinking/planning, and
    • Content/curriculum.

District school boards that apply will commit to completing the expenditure and program-related reporting requirements.

If your district school board is interested in applying for this funding, please distribute this communication to the appropriate people within your organization.

Application
Please complete and submit the application by April 19, 2017. The application can be completed through the online survey. Please find attached, for reference, the Characteristics of Effective Learning Outside the School Day Program Assessment Tool. This tool may help inform the development of your proposal for funding, and can be used to guide the development and implementation of successful pilot projects.
