Know A Student Who Needs Volunteer Hours To Graduate?

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge is a three-week campaign with one goal: get high school teens to volunteer in their community.

The bonus: teens get the community involvement hours they need to graduate high school.

Twenty-one volunteer centres representing more than 50 communities are taking part April 10 – May 1, 2011.

Schools can contact their local volunteer centre to learn about volunteer opportunities, or create their own volunteer events and register the hours with the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network.

Census Teacher's Kit

2011 CensusStatistics Canada has developed a 2011 Census Teacher's Kit for use in elementary, intermediate and secondary classes across the country. All eight activities in the kit are classroom-ready and have been tested to meet curriculum requirements.

The activities are appropriate for many subjects including language arts, economics, mathematics, art, social studies, geography, history, family studies, theatre arts, science and English as a second language (ESL). The best time to incorporate the Teacher's Kit into your curriculum is in May 2011. A census colouring book and activity sheet is included for young students.

Kits can be downloaded online at www.census2011.gc.ca or ordered by email via censuskit@statcan.gc.ca.
