All publicly funded and private elementary and secondary schools provincewide have returned to in-person learning with enhanced health and safety measures.


Schools that returned to in-person learning

As of February 16, 2021, elementary and secondary schools across all public health units have resumed in-person instruction. A list of when schools returned to in-person learning is listed below.

Please note that in-person school attendance is optional for both elementary and secondary students. Remote learning is available for all students who choose this option. Check your school board website for more information.

January 11

As of January 11, 2021, elementary and secondary schools resumed in-person instruction in the following northern public health unit regions:

  • District of Algoma Health Unit
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit
  • Northwestern Health Unit
  • Porcupine Health Unit
  • Sudbury and District Health Unit
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit
  • Timiskaming Health Unit

January 25

As of January 25, 2021, elementary and secondary schools resumed in-person instruction in the following public health unit regions:

  • Grey Bruce Health Unit
  • Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit
  • Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit
  • Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Health Unit
  • Leeds, Greenville and Lanark District Health Unit
  • Peterborough Public Health
  • Renfrew County and District Health Unit

February 1

As of February 1, schools in the following public health units resumed in-person instruction:

  • Eastern Ontario Health Unit
  • Middlesex-London Health Unit
  • Ottawa Public Health
  • Southwestern Public Health

February 8

As of February 8, 2021, all publicly funded and private elementary and secondary schools in the following public health unit regions resumed in-person learning:

  • Brant County Health Unit
  • Chatham-Kent Public Health
  • City of Hamilton Public Health Services
  • Durham Region Health Department
  • Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit
  • Halton Region Public Health
  • Huron Perth Public Health
  • Lambton Public Health
  • Niagara Region Public Health
  • Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services
  • Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit
  • Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health
  • Windsor-Essex County Health

February 16

As of February 16, 2021, all publicly funded and private elementary and secondary schools in the following public health unit regions have resumed in-person learning:

  • Peel Region Public Health
  • Toronto Public Health
  • York Region Public Health
