Healthy Schools

Promoting child and student well-being is one of the four key goals in “Achieving Excellence: A Renewed Vision for Education in Ontario.” This goal includes working to make schools inclusive, safe and welcoming learning environments. Good food, daily physical activity and a healthy environment that supports learning and growth are vital to helping students reach their full potential.

The government is working in partnership with students, school boards, educators, parents and other partners to help create the best possible learning experience for all students.

On October 24, 2017 the Ministry of Education released a draft Policy/Program Memorandum 161 (Draft) (PPM 161) – Supporting Children and Students with Prevalent Medical Conditions (Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and/or Epilepsy) in Schools. The PPM will be finalized in winter 2018, for implementation by September 2018. Resources are available to support implementation of the PPM, including fact sheets and sample Plans of Care for anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy.
