Pilot Schools

There are four schools taking part in the pilot this September:

Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute – Kingston

Students learn advanced food preparation, meal presentation skills, and activity planning for events and catering services. They receive both classroom instruction and experiential learning through cooperative education placements under the supervision of a professional with a Red Seal qualification. A Red Seal means that their qualifications are recognized not just in Ontario but in all provinces.

St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School – North Bay

Students in this program study food preparation, safety standards, and tourism activities in Ontario. They have the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art in-school restaurant, preparing food, controlling inventory and marketing special events.

Fletcher's Meadow Secondary School – Brampton

At this school, students learn basic theoretical and practical culinary skills required by the industry, including à la carte cuisine, pastry making, ethnic cuisine, and contemporary cooking. They gain these skills through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on work in the bake shop, the short-order lab and "The Bistro".

College Heights Secondary School – Guelph

The program focuses on daily food preparation and meal presentation to customers in a school setting and the community. Students take part in hands-on activities that include catering and banquet events, and the day to day operation and management of a student cafeteria. They learn about customer service, presentation, marketing, food preparation, and budgeting/costing. Students travel to work sites and apply the knowledge learned at school in cooperative education placements.
