Healthy Schools
Healthy Foods and Beverages in Elementary School Vending Machines
Introduction
The health and well being of all students is a great concern to the Ministry of Education. Good eating habits are best learned early in life.
This is why the Ministry of Education has provided school boards with recommended nutrition standards for foods and beverages sold in elementary school vending machines.
This initiative is another step in an overall healthy schools strategy to help young people develop healthier lifestyle habits.
It is hoped that the recommended standards assist boards, schools and parents to take an active interest in the types of foods and beverages available in other food sale venues in elementary and secondary school settings.
