Schools and School Boards
The following are the most recent facts and figures available for Ontario's publicly funded education system.
- Administration: Ontario's schools are administered by district school boards and school authorities.
- School Boards are divided as follows:
- 31 English Public
- 29 English Catholic
- 4 French Public
- 8 French Catholic
- School authorities consist of geographically isolated boards and hospital school boards.
- There are 11 School Authorities.
- As of 2009-2010, there were 4,020 elementary and 911 secondary schools in Ontario*.
Education Funding
- For 2009-10, the government's total investment excluding capital in education was $19.5 billion.
- For 2009-10, the government's total capital investment in education was $1.1 billion.
- For 2010-11, the government's total investment excluding capital was projected to be $20.3 billion.
- For 2010-11, the government's total capital investment was projected to be $1.2 billion.
Teachers and Administrators**
- In 2009-2010, there were 114,386.57 (FTE – Full-Time Equivalent) teachers, consisting of 70,453.05 elementary and 43,933.52 secondary teachers.
- In 2009-2010, there were 7,417.53 administrators (principals and vice-principals) (FTE –Full-Time Equivalent), consisting of 5,323.16 elementary and 2,094.37 secondary administrators.
Enrolment
As of 2009-10* the number of students in Ontario was: 2,061,390.
