How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years
How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years (HDLH) is a learning resource for early years professionals. A Minister's Policy Statement has established HDLH as the document to guide programming and pedagogy in licensed child care settings, including those providing before- and after-school care for children attending full-day kindergarten. It also provides a foundation for Extended Day programs run by school boards, and teams of registered early childhood educators in before- and after-school settings. This contributes to a seamless day of learning for 4-and 5-year olds.
How Does Learning Happen? supports pedagogy and program development in early years settings that is shaped by views about children, the role of educators and families, and the relationships among them. It builds on foundational knowledge about children and is grounded in new research and leading-edge practice from around the world.
