Compulsory Certification Review

The Compulsory Certification Review was established to explore the impact of expanding compulsory certification to skilled trades that are currently voluntary. The review was asked to consider:

• Health and safety
• The registration of new apprentices
• The number of apprentices who complete apprenticeship training
• Consumer protection
• Economic impact.

UPDATE, May 22, 2008: The advisor, Tim Armstrong, has now submitted his report.

The Minister will review the report and its recommendations for ensuring our apprenticeship and certification system continues to meet proper safety standards, provides value to consumers, and serves the needs of our growing economy.
