Beyond the 6 Ways

As a package, these six new programs give Ontario high school students more educational choices and a better chance at a successful career after graduation. But the 6 Ways are only the beginning.

To reach every student, each high school is being transformed. The list of exciting programs and initiatives continues to grow.

More ways to reach every student

  • Graduation targets: For the first time, the government has set targets for high school graduation rates. The goal? By 2010–11, 85% of Ontario students will graduate from high school.
  • Student Success culture: Training for principals and teachers is being rolled out across the province to help them understand the new curriculum and foster a student success culture in schools.
  • Student Success Commission: An independent body has been established to advise the Minister of Education on how to implement educational strategies, allocate resources, and set program standards for the Student Success Strategy.
  • Business and external partnerships: To increase student opportunities, the Ministry of Education is developing stronger links between high schools and postsecondary institutions, employers, and community organizations.
  • Revised curriculum: Revisions are complete to the Grade 9 and 10 applied math curriculum.
  • New courses: More than 300,000 students have benefited from over 200 new technological education courses and 500 upgraded courses, including hospitality, health care, and computer engineering.
