Encouraging Parent Involvement in Schools
Parent involvement leads to student success
Research shows that children do better in school when parents take an active role in their education.
Students are more likely to be motivated, to earn higher grades, to have better behaviour and social skills, and to continue their education to a higher level when their parents are actively engaged in supporting their success at school.
To make it easier for parents to get involved, the government is funding projects to encourage parent involvement. Since 2006, the McGuinty government has invested in thousands of projects through Parents Reaching Out grants, available to school councils and school boards. In 2008-9, over 1,300 projects were funded across the province through grants totalling nearly $2 million.
